Reenacting with cartridge weapons is the most dangerous of all periods but with control and adherence to safety systems can be conducted safely. Our weapons are bolt operated and do not use bore restricters or blank firing attachments (BFA), thus the full force of the blank cartridge is expelled from the muzzle. The pressure from this blast can cause death and serious injury and indeed, has done so in some theatrical and film productions. Remember a grenade-launching blank can expel a one pound grenade 100 meters or more. This can be further complicated by the brass, used to make military blank, being second quality and prone to fragment or separation on firing.
To alleviate these problems all members wishing to use firearms must have passed the training modules in weapon handling. Further, in skirmishes no weapon is to be discharged at a person within a 30 DEGREE ARC on a line from muzzle to target. The first lesson is how to CLEAR A WEAPON, or inspect it to see if it is loaded.
This is to be carried out at the start and finish of ANY activity.
